Quick and Easy Craft Projects Using My Pumpkin Fabric

craft diy lifestyle

It was the autumn equinox last week, and as the nights are starting to draw in, it's nice to have some small craft projects to work on.

And as it's halloween this month, I thought I'd use some of my pumpkin print fabric, available on Spoonflower here.  I designed the print using handmade paper and photo collage, so it has a textural look.

These projects are simple, quick, and only use a 1m length of linen cotton canvas for all 3.

Pumpkin Halloween Cushion

First up is a simple envelope cushion.  Make a cosy halloween corner in your home to cuddle up with a hot chocolate or hide behind it when you're watching a scary film!  I used this really simple tutorial.

Now you can get comfortable, let's sew some more

I had a long strip left from the cushion, so I though I would make a tote bag.  Perfect for carrying your horror books or for trick or treating!

The tutorial I used is this 20 minute tote bag.  As I had some scraps of fabric left from one of my skeleton table runners, I made my handles out of that instead of using webbing.  The bright pink contrasts really nicely with the teal and orange of the pumpkin fabric.

I cut 2 strips of 4 inch wide fabric to the length I wanted (27inches), then folded each in half with wrong sides together.  Then I sewed along the long edge with a 1cm hem, and turned through.  Press with the iron, and sew a line of stitching down each side to keep them nice and flat.  Your handles are ready!

The last project is this simple 7 minute zipper pouch tutorial.

I had a small piece of my pumpkin fabric left, so it seemed like the perfect accessory to make to match the tote bag.

I hope you have fun sewing some halloween projects!  I've started a pinterest board full of ideas if you want some more sewing inspiration.

And for the more advanced sewists, have a look at this project made by the amazing Joy of Pink Coat Club!  I gifted her a piece of fabric of her choice, and she decided to make this Halloween pumpkin T-shirt.  I might have to go and make myself one of these now!  Have a look at her instagram to find out how she made it, and see all of her other sewing projects.
